Fate of Tollywood (2011) – Chaitanya Kumar Vummethala

We eagerly wait for the results and individual rankings after writing exams (in academics), similarly in the world of telugu cinema (tollywood) this is the time to assess who did the best and what actually happened in the entire game – last year (i.e., in 2011)!

My brief analysis on Tollywood 2011, goes like this:
To quickly start – there were about 116 straight telugu movies released in 2011, in addition to 126 dubbing movies (from all other languages) being dumped in Andhra Pradesh. Don't surprise by looking at this number surpassing the actual number of straight movie releases (though it's pity, is very common in this industry).

While the budget and collections of a particular movie is always unknown to the end movie lover (audience), even I don't want to get deeper into it (I am also one of the end movie lover) rather would love to express my opinion on the main motive of the movie and its influence on the common audience, i.e., making money (at least recovering the investment) by entertaining movie lovers, which is the ultimate motive of the commercial cinema.

Though the above numbers summing to 242 (116+126), I chose to rate only 88 flicks (combining both category of movie releases), 70 Straight and 18 Dubbed Movies (these 88 being properly populated and promoted by its makers and created some expectations on the movie). The rest of 154 Movies are not even eligible to spend time on! Even makers opted not to spend money to promote these movies (they are already aware that these flicks are not going to yield profits for them, so they opt to keep quite – instead of spending more money on such useless movies).

Note: In case (or) By mistake if I missed any of the useful / good movie, I am sorry and please inform me by writing a small comment under this post, so that I will include such movies in the below table and change the entire dashboard!

Pawan Kalyan’s Panjaa, a sure shot blockbuster

Pawan Kalyan’s Panjaa is hitting screens worldwide on 9th December 2011 as a sure shot blockbuster this time. Just watched few making videos and other trailers of Panjaa, it has every ingredient to entertain the audience and register as a blockbuster hit of the decade. Producers of the movie just started the promotion work and would have to do this for a long time now! After so many days – tollywood will witness a 25 week (175 days) movie in the form of Panjaa – Pawan Kalyan, Vishnu Vardhan and his entire team are pretty confident on the outcome, just need to wait another 4 days.

Congratulations to the makers of Panjaa, for making the most powerful movie with Power Star Pawan Kalyan!

Loved this program (a special story by TV5), so wanted to share this on my blog (there are total 5 parts of this video) and I am posting each part separately!

Part 1 of Pawan Kalyan’s Cineprasthaanam (Movie Journey)!

Are Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu, going hand in hand?

For those who missed my last post, below is an interesting article about “how Pawan is following Mahesh”:-

When Mahesh’s Dookudu was first hit the screens, there was no much hype (from the makers) other than the usual expectations that will be there for the Super Star’s Movie and the story-line was also not so predictable – pre-release (other than few assumptions such as – the movie will have enough comedy coupled with mass elements, because of the King Maker – Seenu Vytla and their title selection). Though the timing was absolutely a jackpot for Dookudu makers to release it, they did not spent much on the publicity and promotion activities (pre-release) rather concentrated on the content and post release promotion work.

Similarly, Pawan Kalyan’s Panjaa is arriving (on 9th December) with a little hype (as of now) and an unclear prediction on the story line (with some expectations on the comedy side due to the presence of Brahmi & Ali). Makers of Panjaa also have not spent too much on pre-release promotional activities (other than two little powerful teasers and have planned a grand audio release function on 19th November 2011 at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium).

Having at least 2 weeks gap after Naga Chaitanya’s Bezawada and Nara Rohit’s Solo releases (both the movies releasing on 24th November 2011), the time slot for Panjaa’s release is definitely very much apt for the highest crowd puller of the industry, Power Star – Pawan Kalyan

While Music Director, Yuvan Shankar Raja was pretty confident on his work (album) to rock the music world of both Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu (Movie being released in both the languages),  Director – Vishnu Vardhan is all set on the post production work of Panjaa with ample time in his hand to mould the movie as the best product in the history of Pawan Kalyan’s filmography.

Deeper insight and amusing Comparison between Super Stars Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan:

Pawan Kalyan who is just 4 years elder than Mahesh Babu, has 15 Movies in his kitty (as a hero – apart from the 2 cameo roles he did for his elder brother’s (Mega Star’s) Shankardada duo-logy movies). Out of these 15, only 7 movies were proved to be hit and all of them were major blockbusters, though the remaining 8 movies were just above average to miserable flops, Pawan never failed to guard his producers from safe zone due to the massive opening collections for his movies (Johnny being exception). Mahesh Babu also has 6 Major blockbusters in his 16 Movies Journey as hero (other than his 9 Movies as a “child artist”).

Interestingly, both Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan have debuted in tollywood (as leads) at the same age, 25 (Rajakumarudu Released on 28th June 1999 & Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi on 11th October 1996) and had their first biggest blockbuster with their 7th movie (Okkadu & Khushi – having Bhoomika as their common lady lead).

While, Pawan had tasted 5 successive successes with likes of Suswagatham, Tholiprema, Thammudu, Badri & Khushi. Mahesh Babu’s Okkadu was just his 3rd hit after his debut hit Rajakumarudu and second hit Murari. So he has increased the pace to mark another biggest hits to surpass his Okkadu. Mahesh had to wait for almost three years for such a hit – and was surprised with the evergreen best movie of the industry – Athadu* (one of the best movies of tollywood till date) from the Director Trivikram (which has also recently completed telecasting 100 times in MAA TV), after his three movies debacle (Nijam, Naani & Arjun) – followed by the biggest hits of his career,  Pokiri  – Directed by Puri Jagannadh (Released on 28th April 2006). (Mahesh Babu’s filmography)

Pawan’s Johnny (which was his debut directorial movie – released after his blockbuster Khushi, after a gap of 2 years) has released with enormous hype but turned out as the miserable flops in his career, and he has to wait for another 5 years (after Gudumba Shankar, Balu ABCDEFG, Bangaram & Annavaram) to taste the success in the form of Trivikram’s Jalsa (Trivikram is the same guy who survived Mahesh Babu, when he was struggling for a much required hit).  (Pawan Kalyan’s filmography)

After Pokiri and Jalsa – both Mahesh and Pawan have created a huge impact on the tollywood box-office collections and were eagerly waiting to re-write their own records. But, Mahesh failed to do so with his Sainikudu, Athidi & Khaleja as the case with Pawan who failed to create that magic with his last two movies – Puli & Theenmaar.

But now, the 16th Movie of Mahesh Babu – “Dookudu” directed by King Maker Seenu Vytla has released (on 23rd September 2011) and the below is the result –

Power Star – Pawan Kalyan, as always following Mahesh Babu, again with his Panjaa (his 16th Movie) looking confident enough to break all the existing box-office collections in the history of tollywood, which is never new to him. So my dear friends – just wait for yet another picture like this with slight changes! Both of them have already completed 16 Movies each, as of now and increased their pace by signing multiple movies at a short span of time.

Mahesh has already started working for Puri Jagannadh’s The Business Man and is excited to start working  with Victory Venkatesh for Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu under the direction of Srikanth Addala and awaiting to announce his upcoming line of projects with:- SukumarTrivikram (Hare Rama Hare Krishna), Rajamouli (Samraat), Mani Ratnam and his Bollywood Entry etc.,

Pawan Kalyan is also quite busy shooting for Gabbar Singh under the direction of Harish Shankar (while his Panjaa is all set to release on 9th December 2011) and has many more movies lined up for announcements after the release of Panjaa, few of them are: Singeetham Srinivas’s Prince of Peace, a Movie under the direction of Raju Sundaram (from BVSN Prasad’s Production house), a Movie from Dil Raju’s Production House, Tashwa Maidan under the direction of Harish Pai, a Bollywood Movie from Ajay Devgan’s Production house, a Bilingual Movie Titled Bhupati Pandyan, a Movie with Veeru Potla  etc.,

Looking at the craze for these two champs, one can imagine how their career graph would be after rendering couple more blockbusters from now (may be in the form of Panjaa, The Business Man, Gabbar Singh and so on).

Is Pawan Kayan (with Panjaa) following Mahesh Babu (Dookudu)?

Mahesh Babu is all set to recreate the magic in combination with Puri Jagannadh (The Business Man), just look at the below picture. He also have another set of movies such as Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, a Movie with Sukumar, and another movie under the direction of Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (Krish) in his hands.

Same is the case with Pawan Kalyan, who is currently shooting for his Gubbar Singh has another 2 movies in his hand (a Movie with Trivikram, and a Movie under the production  house of either DVV Dannayya or Dil Raju)!

Its already proven that Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu has become one of the biggest hits of the industry and the team have also celebrated its 50 days function in a grand way at Vijayawada.

Lets see how the strategy was, for Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu.

When the movie (Dookudu) first hit the screens, there was not much hype other than the usual expectations that will be there for Mahesh’s Movie and the story was also not so predictable pre-release (other than few assumptions such as – movie will have enough comedy and mass elements, due to the presence of King Maker – Seenu Vytla and their title selection). Having a 2 week gap after Sri Rama Rajyam, Bezawada & Solo releases, time slot for Panjaa’s release is also very much apt for the highest crowd puller in the industry, Power Star Pawan Kalyan. Also director Vishnu Vardhan have taken enough care on the post production work with ample time in his hand to mould the movie as the best product for Pawan Kalyan.

If your question is so what? then start guessing for the answer …………………..Yes! you are almost there……………Correct! Panjaa is the 16th Movie of Pawan Kalyan (who is pretty confident) and is all set to re-write the history of tollywood box-office collections, which is never new to him. So my dear friends – just wait for yet another picture like the above with slight changes!
